Is Watness witless?

That’s the existential question for every one of us. Who am I? Why am living now? How did I get here?

Reminds me of a Talking Heads song. The lyrics are somewhere in the folds of gray matter of my brain.

Readers of the Skamania County Pioneer know of Watness as its editor/reporter. They sometimes assume he owns the 132-year-old publication. Not.

But one advantage of covering local governments for more than a dozen years gives me insight and knowledge about them.

I admit that the breadth of knowledge is not deep. But it’s far more than most people in Skamania County will ever have.

Then consider that this man has also worked in factories and taverns, has owned a delivery business, and once raced against Nascar legend Bill Elliott.

His tales may be more fantastic than his accomplishments but he honors both.
